Industrial Image & CAD Drawing SEO

In industrial and mechanical component sourcing, Google Images is a high-frequency entry point for overseas engineers.

Faced with complex machinery assembly challenges, mechanical designers frequently search Google Images with specific technical queries (e.g., “M8 double stud rubber mount dimension drawing”) to visually inspect physical outlines and mounting dimensions. If your engineering diagrams rank at the top, you capture high-intent procurement demand instantly.

However, search engine crawlers cannot interpret unlabeled image pixels. To ensure your technical photography and blueprints index effectively, you must standardize file naming and Alt text (alternative text).

Factory merchandisers often upload unedited smartphone photos (e.g., IMG_8492.jpg or Screenshot_1.png). To Google’s indexing engine, these filenames provide zero semantic value.

  • Use lowercase Latin characters only;
  • Separate words with hyphens -;
  • Explicitly include part codes, mechanical attributes, and image categories (such as photo, drawing, or diagram).

The Alt text attribute (alt="" in HTML) describes image contents to search engine spiders and assistive screen readers.

Whenever you upload an asset to the Payload CMS Media collection, the Alt Text field is mandatory.

  1. Accurate Subject Description: Identify the exact part and structure;
  2. Incorporate Engineering Specs: Include thread pitches, dimensions, hardness ratings, or metallurgy;
  3. Avoid Keyword Stuffing: Never string unrelated commercial adjectives together.

While high-resolution drawings are crucial, bloated file sizes degrade page load times and harm Google Core Web Vitals.

  1. Adopt Next-Gen Formats (WebP): WebP achieves 30% to 70% smaller file sizes compared to legacy PNG or JPEG files while preserving sharp CAD vector edges.
  2. Standardize Pixel Dimensions:
    • Primary product photography: 1200px to 1600px wide;
    • Specification table thumbnails: 300px to 400px wide;
    • Keep file sizes below 200KB per image. Never upload raw multi-megabyte camera files directly.
  3. Clean Backgrounds: Use solid white (#FFFFFF) or transparent backgrounds for industrial component photography, matching Western engineering procurement expectations.

  1. In Payload CMS, navigate to Media in the left sidebar.
  2. Click Create New and upload your pre-named image (e.g. vd-rubber-isolator-mount-dimension-drawing.webp).
  3. In the detail pane, locate the Alt Text field and enter your standardized English description.
  4. Click Save.
  5. When this image is selected within any product record or catalog block, the CMS automatically outputs the compliant Alt tag to the public HTML.
